The country's president, Hashim Thaci, has today recalled the unity shown by the Kosovo leadership at the Rambouillet Conference.
Thaci has said that on this day we remember all heroes fallen into war and the support of international friends, especially the US and other Euro-Atlantic partners.
Even today, in the new chapter for NATO and EU integration, Thaci has said how never before in Kosovo is required to preserve domestic political and civic unity and move forward with international friends.
“In Rambouille, 21 years ago, Kosovo spoke for the first time and decided on itself. After exhausting negotiations, three weeks, our delegation offered the international community principled compliance with the negotiated agreement. The state of Serbia, in parallel with the genocide it committed in Kosovo, rejected opportunities for reaching the peace agreement. After consultations and receiving goodwill from the people of Kosovo, the agreement between the Kosovo side and the international community was officially signed in March in Paris. Kosovo was listed on the right side of history, in the community of peoples that share the values and principles of Western civilisation. After that was the intervention of NATO and we won freedom before we become a state. Kosovo, for 12 years independence, has achieved more than any other state. On this day, we remember all the heroes who fell into war and the support of international friends, especially the US and other Euro-Atlantic partners. Even today, in the new chapter of NATO and EU integration, as never before, in Kosovo it is required to preserve internal political and civic unity and move forward with international friends”, President Thaci wrote.
