IK KPS: The number of patients affected by seasonal flu increases

The National Institute of Health of Kosovo has reportedly increased vigilance to cope with further increased intensity of seasonal flu.

October 01st, 2019 through February 9, 2020, at the National Institute of Public Health have tested a total of 522 suspicious samples in Grip, of which 214 (41 %) samples have resulted positive, of which 98 (45.8%) positive in the A flu and 116 (54.2%) positive in B flu.

Hospitalizations: In the Infectious Clinic, the Clinic of Pediatrics and regional hospitals between October 1st 2019 and February 09th 2020, 492 cases of Dg have been hospitalised. Bronx (ARI), 154 cases with Dg. Sng and 35 cases of Dg. SYRI and 5 fatal cases with previous known chronic diseases and a case as a result of seasonal flu.

Currently, the epidemiological situation is under control in terms of seasonal flu, but with the current climate situation ruling in Kosovo, high intensity is expected to continue next month.

During the 6th week (03.0220-09,02,2020), 5454 SNG cases were reported, 417 cases of ARI (Ack Respiratory Revolution) and 13 cases of severe acute respiratory infection.

Given the progress of the seasonal flu and the increase in spread in early February, the seasonal flu has reached the epidemic threshold with high intensity.

The Committee on Monitoring Contagion Disease finds that:

The seasonal flu has crossed the epidemic threshold and increased intensity from middle to upper. Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia share the same high intensity, while the most intense: Albania, Greece and Slovenia, the EU states have also registered high and very high intensity;

The National Institute for seasonal flu's comprehensive recommendations must continue and apply to the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo, refocusing once again the necessary measures in all health institutions.

Kosovo National Institute of Health officials warn that virus A H1N1 is part of the group of common flu viruses giving the right professional recommendations, so that citizens can take care of themselves and not get out in cold environments, stay indoors with high human density, and use as much hot fluids and vitamins as possible.

The National Institute has submitted recommendations to all health institutions in the country for measures to prevent seasonal flu and will regularly inform about changes in the epidemiological situation to the Ministry of Health and OBS.

Recommendations for Health Institutions

National Institute recommendations should be undertaken strictly and control the effect of these measures rigorously:

• The maximum alert and alert level for action in the situation created 24 hours.
• Maximum control and inspections at all health institutions in the country (Public and Private),
• All suspicious cases of the flu continue to be identified and reported by all public and private health institutions.
• In all health institutions in the country (Public and Private) to have separate rooms prepared (specially at the QKUK's Infectious Clinic and other Hospital Institutions in the country).
• In all health institutions of the country (Public and Private), there needs to be increased professional internal control on daily bases by implementing high institutions' recommendations.
• To grow to the maximum the care of medical staff and not medical care for personal and institutional hygiene.
• It will completely disrupt unnecessary visits as well as the presence of uninformed persons in Hospital Institutions.
• Used by health personnel, safeguard clauses that match instructions.
• Place propagandistic and educational materials for the prevention of flu in health institutions, school or public entities where citizens - from their responsibilities are collected.
• Main Centres of Family Medicine (including all family medicine centers depending on it), Regional Public Hospitals and City Hospitals, including ambulances and private hospitals, will report information about serious clinical cases on daily grounds (according to instructions) and the fastest tools of the Regional Public Health Institutes.
• Regional institutions will process data, and depending on epidemiological performance, they immediately report the National Institute with the fastest means of communication and submit weekly reports completed at the National Institute.
• Taking samples for laboratory confirmation will only take place in patients with clinical symptoms based on the definition of the case at the Infectious Clinic.
• Infectious Clinic staff forward samples for laboratory confirmation and report on all hospitalised cases by filling out the appropriate questionnaire.
• Risk groups (health workers and chronically ill) can still be vaccinated.

Practical measures in preventing the spread of the seasonal flu virus.

• To avoid contact with sick individuals as possible,
• Sick people stay at home to prevent the spread of the disease
• To reduce the number of family visits to hospitalised persons ( SHSKUK, Regional Hospitals)
• Flight closed places and overloaded with people
• Eat Healthful by Useing More vitamins
• Get physical activity and sufficient sleep.
• Clean and disinfect your environments
• Cover your nose and mouth with a headscarf when sneezing and coughing and then jumping to safety
• Wash your hands often with water and soap, or use hand solution with alcohol
• Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with contaminated hands, for this is how the virus spreads
• Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may have been contaminated by the virus

Consult your doctor for treatment with flu, drugs are only prescribed for doctor;

The flu - related drugs have no preventative effect, can only be used if you are ill with the flu and recommended by the doctor;

In the first 48 hours of the disease's beginning to have high effectiveness, flu drugs must be initiated;

Flu - related drugs can make the disease softer as well as shorten the time of the disease. They can also prevent serious complications that can result from the flu.
