Haxhiu Albulen: The justice system is released when property is addressed

Justice Minister-elect Albulen Haxhiu today officially accepted the new task that will take place at the helm of this institution. She met with current Minister Abelard Tahiri, who handed over to her the ministry's affairs that are under way. Haxhiu pledged that he would co-operate closely with Kosovo's Parliament, justice institutions, civil society and the media, meanwhile, stressed that the justice system is released when the property is addressed.

The former chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Legislation, now the justice minister, said one of the biggest challenges this institution will face is the process of ownership.

“As far as property is concerned, I believe the justice system starts to break free at the moment we address the property. I believe this will be one of the greatest challenges the Ministry of Justice will face. I personally have conveyed the property to the Republic of Albania, there we have to take lessons on how it went because it started well and then had numerous problems. I think we should learn lessons from that process. We have our priority, first as self-inflicted for all institutions, in this case for police, prosecutors, courts, AKI, customs, ATK, financial intelligence units, orientation to complete this process will be two years because it is an extremely difficult process”, she said.

She said they will do this in co-operation with civil society organisations, the American Embassy in Pristina, the one of Great Britain and the German Embassy.

Haxhiu said the justice ministry expects major challenges, but that with full commitment it will manage to address the goals ahead.

She pledged strong co-operation would have strong co-operation with the Kosovo Assembly, where she said she would report regularly to relevant commissions and answer any parliamentary question by the Parliamentary MPs of the Parliament.

While Abelard Tahiri, who has led this ministry, said the work of this institution will be forwarded by the Parliamentary Commission for Legislation.

I can say it's good luck for the Justice Ministry to run a man who's been on two terms at the Commission for Legislation, and it's pretty much reported on the Justice Ministry's work, the legislative agenda that is very important and I'm going to follow the justice ministry's work by the Commission for Legislation. Normally, I will provide support to projects we think are important to citizens and rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo”, he said.

Albulen Haxhiu of the Vetevendosje Movement has been elected Justice Minister to the new government cabinet headed by Albin Kurti yesterday.
