This earthquake struck at the border with Iran, wounding dozens of people in border villages in both countries, government officials have said, writes NBC, translates Periscopi.
Three of those killed were children, while 37 Turks are reportedly injured, of which nine are critically, the health minister recently announced.
The earthquake prompted more than a thousand buildings to collapse in Turkey, causing Turkish authorities to immediately launch emergency search-saving teams.
Significant damage is reported to have taken place in Iran as well, but so far there are no reports on the dead.
Turkish television footage shows people as they dig the ruins of buildings with their bare hands.
