The giant of the best-selling technology equipment on the market has been fined 25m euros.
Apple received this fine after being accused of deliberately slowing down the oldest iPhone models without informing consumers.
Fine was decided by DGCCRF, the overseer of competition and fraud in France, who said users were not warned.
In 2017, Apple confirmed that she slowed down some iPhones, but she said that she did this only to extend “life” of equipment.
The French supervisor said the owners of the iPhone “were not informed that installing iOS updates (10.2.1 and 11.2) could slow down their equipment”.
As part of the deal, Apple had to issue an announcement on his French page for a month. She says Apple “committed the crime of fraudulent commercial practice through inaction” and had agreed to pay the fine.
Why does Apple slow down the old iPhone?
Many clients had long suspected that Apple slowed down the oldest iPhones to encourage people to buy new equipment.
In 2017 the company confirmed that it allowed some models to slow down as they age but not to encourage people to buy more.
He said the lithium-on batteries in the device became less capable of providing the current peak demand, after aging over time.
This could result in the sudden closure of the iPhone to protect its electronic components.
