The sixth champion of this tournament is recovering from knee surgery, so he won't be able to play.
Zvicerani, who is the 20fold winner of the Grand Slam Awards, has not played since January, after undergoing two operations.
The 39-year-old hoped to return to the Australian Open that starts on February 8th in Melbourne, but that won't happen.
“Roger went ahead of time to prepare himself for a Grand Slam rigorous”, the tour director, Craig Tilley, said, adding that he would not be able to play.
Federer was part of the Australian Open for 21 years, but his agent clarified that this year's absence was the best decision for a long-term plan. /
