General Gustave Perna, a senior official of the US government, said on December 12th that the distribution process has already begun with the package of Pfizer vaccines at its production plant. Transport companies will start moving the vaccine on the morning of December 13th to distribution centres, from which they will be sent to hospitals and health centres starting on December 14th.
The distribution and management of the vaccine presents a major logistical challenge because it should be kept at temperature -70 degrees Celsius.
The US Food and Bars Administration (FDA) on December 11th approved the vaccine, which is given two doses. The vaccine will take place among people aged 16 to 85. Pfizer plans to provide about 3 million doses in the first shipment this week, or enough for 1.5 million people.
The first vaccines will give health care workers priority.
Health officials say Pfizer vaccine - B NTech and others will be more available for a broader measure of people until spring of next year.
The immediate launch of the mass vaccine campaign comes as the virus spreads throughout the country. The total number of deaths in the United States from the Coronavirus has reached nearly 300,000.
