German Ambassador: I believe Serbia understands that Kosovo independence is irreversible

Schutz has said the DW should also be in Serbia's interest to advance dialogue, due to its EU accession talks.
She said she believes Serbia understands that Kosovo's independence is no longer returnable, while she stressed that the United States will have a new government after January 20th, which will give new impetus to talks.
The situation in Kosovo's domestic policy has complicated the dialogue more. And the coming months, the elections to be held and the government's establishment behind them will not facilitate the talks. However, several meetings at the political level have been held since summer, and especially at the expert level, on which we have been told that both sides are engaged constructively.
Of course there are many differences to overcome. The decision is to have an agreement at the end of the dialogue to fix all open issues steadily and to be politically stable in both countries. This will enable Serbia and Kosovo the prospect of EU accession and contribute to regional stability”, she said.
Schutz further says that “should be in Serbia's interest to advance dialogue, due to its EU accession talks. We know it's not simple, but I believe Serbia understands that Kosovo's independence is no longer return. We must not forget that the United States will have a new government after January 20th, which will give new impetus to talks”.
For the idea about changing previously circulated territories, in charge of Southeast Europe to the German Foreign Ministry, said “The EU, the leading role in the dialogue the US has accepted, has always stressed that an agreement contributing to stability should be negotiated and does not destroy it.
So I think the idea of changing territories is no longer a subject of discussion.
As for visa liberalisation for Kosovo, this is actually a difficult process, because the scepticism of some member states must be overcome. But even this case we have put into the agenda of Council working groups, along with the prayer sent to the Commission to bring more information. These are good precautions to continue talks next year in hopes that visa liberalisation will be achieved, to finally implement the EU promise”.
