Costa missed her first training session of Atletico on Monday after Christmas break and requested a break in his contract, which lasts until summer, the Spanish media reported.
El Mundo claims the club will not cause problems for 32-year-old attacker, but there is a clause in the contract that prevents him from signing a contract with some of the biggest Atleticos competitors, such as Seville, Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Costa will reportedly be fined 25m euros if she joins one of three rival clubs.
