American expert for the Western Balkans Janusz Bugajski has said the EU and the US must resolve Kosovo-Serbia dispute.
He at a US Congress Foreign Affairs Committee conference said the economy would not solve the political problems of the two countries, so he recommended a renegotiation of leaders after the Washington Agreement.
Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and Bosnia and Herzegovina's deadlock are the two main US challenges to the Western Balkan region, according to Bugajski.
“Serbia should follow the path of recognition of citizenship. This is the only sustainable solution for both countries that will allow their goal of EU integration and economic development to be met. The US and EU partnership to reach the agreement is essential. The leaders of Kosovo and Serbia who signed economic agreements in September must be re-admissioned for deal”.
“The United States should not focus solely on economic issues. Economic relations will not be normal if those policies remain abnormal”.
Bugajski added that the third challenge for the US is the threat from Russia and China in the Western Balkans, so he said civil society and local media should help in the fight against deinformation that Russia and China have to resources.
The American analyst made these statements at the “Balkan conference: Political recommendations for the new administration” being led by the chairman of the US Congress Foreign Affairs Committee, Eliot Engel.
