The government in charge of Avdullah Hoti, on October 19th of this year made the decision on which the general tariffs for copyright and Near Rights were approved for, while on October 30th, he made another decision to push tariff implementation for April 1, 2021.
In this regard, the Association “Autors, producers and visual interpreters of Kosovo” (VAPIK) had reacted, saying the second decision was made in private consultation with the representatives of cable operators, without consulting other key actors such as the Association for Early Rights Management and the Author's Law Office as neutral parties in the matter.
We want to show our support in the fight of our VAPI colleagues in Kosovo”, writes also in this letter to Writers & Directors Worldwide” with headquarters in Paris.
With a similar letter, Prime Minister Hoti has also addressed the “Association of European Performers”, an organisation representing the interest of performers of 36 organisations from 26 countries.
We've been informed that until your government recently approved the tariffs for cable transmissions, V APIC is facing resistance from cable operators to respect them and make the payments necessary for V APIC with the tax collection on behalf of performers. This is biased not only for performers in Kosovo, but more globally for all performers in Europe and beyond, and for their fundamental cultural role. By means of this letter, we want to express support for V The APIK and I urge you to make sure that the tariffs set by the government are implemented”, writes in the letter of “Association of European Performers”.
The same have been written by Prime Minister Hoti and the V sister organisation. APIC from Brussels, “The Societies Council for the Administration of Parents Rights”. They have reminded Prime Minister Hoti that these rights are guaranteed even by international laws, through the Rome Convention, demanding faster implementation of the tariffs imposed by the government.
“We strongly believe that the fixed and published tariffs should be transparent and that their assessment should be independent and economically balanced. We understand that this process has been followed for audio visual tariffs so we seek as fast as possible implementation of the benefits of all performers”, writes the letter sent to Prime Minister Hoti from this organisation.
