We remember that the Vukovar Battle was an 87-day siege of Vukovar in eastern Croatia by the Yugoslav People's Army, supported by various paramilitary forces from Serbia, in mid-August and November 1991. Before the Croatian War and Independence, the baroque city was a prosperous community of Croats, Serbs, and other ethnic groups.
Vukovar was protected with about 1,800 lightly armed soldiers of the Croatian National Guard and civil volunteers, against 36,000 Yugoslav soldiers and Serbian paramilitaries equipped with heavy armour and artillery forces. During the battle, missiles and missiles were fired in the city at a rate of 12,000 per day.
