It has been talking about the agreement on economic normalisation, which was signed by Kosovo and Serbia in Washington on 4 September with the US side's mediation.
The American diplomat has considered the strong partnership the American state has with the business community in Kosovo important, saying the main goal of American politics in recent years has been economic initiatives to enable citizens a better future.
“It is difficult to separate politics from the economy, but I can tell you that when the economy is ignored and when the benefits common citizens see from political initiatives are ignored, it is very difficult to move forward,” Ambassador Costnett said.
The American diplomat explained that the American Embassy and its partners in Washington support Kosovo and Serbia in implementing the November 4th agreement, given that improving the lives of citizens is essential for building the region's economy.
If you look at the Balkan map, Kosovo is in the middle of the map. Kosovo's neighbours need Kosovo as much as Kosovo needs its neighbours, to build a regional economy and build a regional infrastructure,” said, Konett.
He added, meanwhile, that it is important that Kosovo exceed its reservations around CEFTA and Mini-Shangen and work with its regional partners.
While, John Jovanovic, director of the Western Balkans and Aegean region of the Financial Development Corporation (DFC), said the main part of the DFC's goals in the region is to expand Kosovo's available financial means in order to empower its economy through investments from global markets.
“As far as our regional development goals are concerned, they focus on combating brain drain, offering young people convincing economic opportunities to stay and be successful in the region. The DFC also focuses on creating more stable regional conditions in terms of energy and telecommunications, as well as on improving overall regional economic co-operation, which would result in accelerating the region's economic growth,” said Jovanovic.
The executive director of the American Economic Ode in Kosovo, Arian Zeka, said the agreement on economic normalisation would open up new economic development opportunities.
He stressed the importance of opening new funding opportunities from the Financial Finance Corporation and EXIM Bank for the development of transport infrastructure, facilitating financial access to small and medium-sized enterprises, and women undertaken.
OEK chairman Berat Rukiqi also said implementing the provisions of the Washington Agreement would help not only address issues between Kosovo and Serbia, but also other issues that negatively affect the economic development of the entire region.
