The decision was between January 24th and January 17th, with the board choosing the first, even though Barcelona plays outside in Elche that weekend.
“over the coming weeks the final electoral calendar will be formalised, as well as the countries and logistics of the entire process”, said in Barcelona's statement.
The president who wins the elections on 24 January will have a tight deadline to move to the transfer market if he intends to seek reinforcements on Ronald Coeman's team.
The passing winter deadline opens on 4 January and closes on 1 February, so the next board will have only one week to operate.
At this moment, candidates who have announced their intention to run for Barcelona president are Victor Font, Tony Freixa, Agusti Benedito, Jordi Farre, Louis Fernandez Alal, and Xavier Villayana.
The election campaign will last a week, from January 15th to January 22nd, and only members of the legal age of voting will be able to vote -- they will have to be members for a year and have never been suspended. Electronic voting will not be allowed and all candidates must collect at least 2,264 signatures.
The winner of the elections will have a challenging six-year mandate ahead of them. They will have to inject life into an old, slow team and try to bring Barcelona back to the level of Europe's supertel.
However, the most pressing will be Leonel Messi's conviction to stay, since the Argentinians can sign for anyone in the summer because he will remain a free player.
