The former Albanian terrorist's attorney speaks: It radicalized via internet and friends

The Albanian lawyer in Vienna, Mirsad Musliu, an interview for Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu initially shows how his legal company took protection from Mejm Feyzulla, who was involved in Monday's terrorist act that shocked Austria, and was later executed by police. Muhammad Veliu: Lawyer [...]

Muhammad Veliu: Lawyer, how did you know Cameron Feyzulla and when was your first contact with him?

Mirsad Musliu: The first contact was in 2019 when his family came to the office and showed that the boy is in custody in Vienna. Those moments when the family came to the office we didn't know the person in question. We saw a very cultured family with a very pro-European family, a whole family where people could think about what their child could do. That's why we got the person's representation in question.

Muhammad Veliu: What evidence did the prosecution present when he was sentenced in April 2019?

Mirsad Musliu: The man in question was arrested in Turkey where he spent four months in custody after attempting to cross the Turkish-Sari border to join I SIS. He was arrested in Turkey and extradited to Vienna. That was the main accusation. Trying to join a terrorist organization.

Muhammad Veliu: Was it a difficult matter for you to take defense?

Mirsad Musliu: It wasn't a difficult case, it wasn't complicated because it was an occasion when a person tried to get to it. I SIS was arrested without reaching the right place. The legal case was very clear.

Muhammad Veliu: What happened during the trial, did your client accept the charge?

Mirsad Musliu: The man in court pleaded guilty and agreed to any court ruling and any parallel treatment the court took as a move along with the ruling appointed by the independent Austrian court.

Muhammad Veliu: After the end of the 22-month monk sentence in April, 2019, have you met with memory?

Mirsad Musliu: Not the last contact was when decisions were made in the first instance. The decision was also accepted by the prosecution and the accused. The subject was carried out in April, and the person in question then made the sentence in a prison near Vienna. We haven't had any more contact after getting the court's decision.

Muhammad Veliu: What do you think was the cause of his radicalization that led to this attack in Vienna?

Mirsad Musliu: That's the key question that we're in debate here in Austria why this happened. That is a question that only one could answer. I think there's a lot of tools in contemporary times how a person can radicalize. Take, for example, the Internet. It's an endless tool where there's right and wrong information, correct and incorrect and wrong. I personally think that the internet and society have been two major factors for the person's radicalism in question. I know that he as a teenager had friends here in Austria, Albanians, Bosniaks, Turks and Chechen, but I believe that a person born and raised in Austria has societies. What's the main factor why he's gone astray doesn't know.

Muhammad Veliu: Remember how long has he lived in Vienna?

Mirsad Musliu: I think his family, though I don't know exactly how much memory was born in Austria, has something over 20 years here.

Muhammad Veliu: What happens to the family after the police remember?

Mirsad Musliu: I think the family is in a very tragic position. On the one hand, their child has committed an act of macabre, an act against humanity, an act against democracy on the other. Family lost their child. I can describe how a family feels in this situation, and I don't want that to anyone.
