Arsene Wenger estimated that some football clubs want to create European Superliga as they cannot compete financially with rivals from the League Premier.
Manchester United and Livepool are in negotiations to create a new race worth six billion dollars, in which 18 clubs from the five strongest European leagues would participate.
Founders want the race to begin in 2022, and Josep Maria Bartholomew, who resigned as Barcelona president on Tuesday, recently said his club has already agreed to participate.
Wenger, who is the chairman of the International Football Development Programme of the International Football Federation (FIFA), said these plans are aimed at destroying “Persuasion” of the League Premier.
The League has the upper hand, other leagues are trying to destroy the advantage it has. To them, the best thing is to create a European League, which would basically destroy the League Premier. If they agree with large English clubs, this will happen,” said Wenger, Sky reports.
Better European clubs would play more often in Superleague, but Wenge said the biggest winners would be the owners of clubs.
We are in a period of owners who are investors. Their first goal is to make more money. The European Superleague could be a way to earn more money,” said Wenger.
