The 2020 European Championships were postponed for a year later, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, recent days have begun to circulate rumours that even next summer will be difficult to hold this competition.
But to eliminate all speculation, the president of the U.S. U n EFA Alexander Ceferin, who in an interview given to German media, has stressed that the European will be held and even in the best possible way.
We were unprepared for such a situation last year, but now we are much stronger and more organized for everything. We have planned both the European option without fans, as well as those with 30%, 50% or 70% of stadium capacity. Of course, our goal is to play with as many fans as possible on the stadium's stairs, but to see how the events will turn out”, Cefer said.
European development idea in eight different states of the continent was promoted by former president U n EFA, Michel Platini, but Cefer sees this format as inappropriate, especially the difficult situation the world is going through.
“From the standpoint of symbolism is very beautiful, but it's not easy for UEFA. It wasn't even before the pandemic and it was complicated even more now, because it's a big challenge, but I'm sure we're going to make a really great show. We have organised over 420 international matches since August, and everything has gone well, so I have the conviction that we will be even clearer until next summer”, the head of the group said.
