Prime Minister Michael Martin's government confirmed the country's return to the highest level of restrictions in the fight against corruption and all shops except food were closed for six weeks, while restaurants serve only food and people are not allowed to go more than five kilometers from their homes.
Two weeks ago, all restaurants were closed and the number of family visits was limited.
Ireland recorded yesterday 675 new cases of COVID -- the lowest number since 9 October. At the same time, the average of seven days fell from 1,176 seven days ago to 866.
The Irish police, who are guarding essential products from customers, are also helping to keep everything within strict limits.
