The Democratic Party of Kosovo has reacted sharply to the decision of Avdullah Hoti, who has dismissed Police Director General Rashit Qalaj from office today.
This decision, according to the PDK assessment, is an arbitrary decision and seriously violates one of the most important independent institutions of the state.
The fact that this dismissal is taking place when it has not yet been filled a week since LDK Deputy Chairman Haki Rugova's arrest, suggests it is an act of revenge against law enforcement institutions. The moment and the methods of dismissal prove that the move is a clear warning message to police, investigators, prosecutors and judges who dare to deal with the LDK's criminal acts. Kosovo police have proved successful in fulfilling the tasks and this dismissal constitutes an attempt to capture the state”, the PDK's response said.
PDK's full communication:
The Democratic Party of Kosovo, through this press release, expresses indignation at Kosovo Police Director-General Rashit Qalaj's arbitrary dismissal.
This decision seriously affects one of the most important independent institutions of the state. Kosovo police have proved successful in fulfilling the tasks, and this dismissal constitutes an attempt to capture the state. Such an act is also encouraging organised crime, which has been hit with dedication and efficiency by Qalaj's director, achieving very high results in efforts to establish order and law in the country.
The fact that this dismissal is under way when it has not yet been completed a week since LDK Deputy Chairman Haki Rugova's arrest, hints that it is an act of revenge against law enforcement institutions. The moment and the methods of dismissal prove that the move is a clear warning message to police, investigators, prosecutors and judges who dare to deal with the LDK's criminal acts.
Therefore, the Democratic Party of Kosovo calls on senior officials of the ruling Democratic League of Kosovo to distance itself from such abusive acts that seem to be political cleansing and set a dangerous precedent for the functioning of institutions of particular importance such as the police.
Also through this communique, The PDK calls for director Qalaj to return to the helm of the institution as soon as possible and for police to be left calm without political interference in exercising its noble duty.
