In the context of the rise of COVID-19 cases across the country, the German Parliament adopted an emergency mechanism that would allow political parties to avoid normal rules for electing their candidates for elections.
Federal elections are expected late next year and the mechanism will enable parties to bypass the rule, which urges them to hold a conference to appoint their candidates, the ATS reports.
This means that appointment of candidates can be done without a personal appointment, using electronic means or postal voting.
The mechanism can be called by the Interior Ministry in cases of a natural disaster or cases similar to major weights, such as COVID-19's pandemic.
