The European Union does not have the power to impose a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, without proper co-operation with the US, civil society representatives say. Meanwhile, from the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs say the EU has realised that the Kosovo issue should be taken seriously.
European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell's statement that the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is a matter of music, not years, sparked reactions in Kosovo as well, RTV Dukajni reports.
For Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Time Kadrijaj, this shows that the EU has already realised that the Kosovo issue should be taken seriously.
The EU has already realised that the Kosovo issue should be taken seriously because a prolonged process of dialogue has no more meaning and that the process must have an end. I understand that the US's commitment to these economic agreements has also mobilised EU countries to deal more specifically with Kosovo”, said about RTV Time Kadrijay Dukagjin.
But from civil society, they say the EU has no power to impose agreements.
“I think it is a high claim by the EU and I consider that the EU does not have the power to impose agreements within several months and that it cannot do so without close co-operation with the United States of America. Whatever it is, it is a legitimate claim [Borell]. I consider this to be more a claim to show before the foreign ministers of the EU powerful states that it is doing something in the Kosovo-Serbia” dialogue, said Arber Fetah of the Group for Political and Juridic Studies.
EU top diplomat Joseph Borell's statements came during the meeting that he and the EU's EU minister for dialogue Miroslav Lajcak had with the foreign ministers of Union states.
