A Swedish study has concluded that women who get promoted and take better positions than they used to have a much higher chance of getting divorced than their male colleagues.
Researchers found that certain types of promotions nearly doubled the divorce rate for women but not for men.
Study women who took office as mayors or deputies had more chances of getting divorced than men in those posts. The same results apply to women at office. Those who were promoted to positions of importance were divorced within five years of taking office.
One non-negotiable factor was the difference in the husband and wife's salaries. If the difference after the promotion was great, marriage increasingly moves away from the cultural standard it claims that a husband will financially care for his wife and home.
One of the men who participated in the study shed light on the reasons for these divorces. He said the moment his wife was promoted, “wanted to know more about her or her home. ”
“We need to be more aware of the way we form pairs. It is not the ideal way for women to progress in careers,” says top researcher for The Atlantic.
