In this respect, the next months are <x0-seaters”, von der Leen said at a plenary session of the European Parliament. The “is particularly important to preserve the momentum in the Western Balkans before the Zagreb Summit is held if we want this summit to be successful. We must carry out our duties, now”, von der Leyen said.
She stressed that it should be enabled to start membership negotiations with northern Macedonia and Albania because, according to her, these two countries have fulfilled their part of obligations and that it is now up to the European side to fulfill the promise. In October of last year, the European Union has not approved the launch of negotiations with these two countries, despite the European Commission's recommendation that they have met the conditions.
The decision has been blocked by France, which has called for further reforms from them, but also reforming the enlargement process. Consequently, by the end of January, the European Commission will come up with a new methodology for accession negotiations, which must then be supported by EU member states.
With the European Union currently leads Croatia. The summit between the EU and the Western Balkans will be held in Zagreb in May. /Top Channel/
