Sami Thaci, 38-year-old, is the 21st Kosovo police official, who has lost his life in the line of office since the founding of the Kosovo Police 20 years ago. The first case of the murder of a police official has been registered in September 2001, while since then the greatest concern has been raised over the lack of health and life insurance for all those officials who have primary care for security and rule of law in the country.
This week has caught the Kosovo Police in the vortex of trouble. In addition to worrying about their colleague's loss from the Antidroga Unit, Sami Thaqi, and wounding the other two in an explosive attack Tuesday evening in the village of Zhur of Prizren, Kosovo police officials are more than concerned about their lack of health and vital security, writes the newspaper “Zri” today.
Even 21 years after the war and 20 years from the founding of the Kosovo Police Institution, police members are still not enjoying a fundamental right to them. And cases like Tuesday's, according to local security connoisseurs, could occur even further if police officials do not start training, even those for police raids, arrests of suspects or other major shares. Security Affairs Knower Drizan Shala has seen the need to train Kosovo Police members from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and especially explosives.
“The MPB should invest in creating conditions for training each member in every field, not in particular in explosives, but in dealing with mismanaging funds dedicated to the field of training. The fact is that 90% of the number of officials has not completed their training on how to control the site in case there are” explosives reportedly, he told the newspaper.
He has expressed concern that such cases could happen in the future, and that a more detailed interaction of operational units and security organisations at the national level is needed.
There may be such cases in the future, but there may also be other cases where biological/chemical substances can be used and these cases require treatment and other approach and for which only one entity is treated within the MSF. So we have to have more detailed operational interactions between the entities and other security organisations at the national level”, the expert on security issues noted.
