US Special Operations Forces on the ground in Iraq were following a column carrying Iranian General Qassem Solemann when he was hit by an American threat last week, killing Soleiman and nine others, Fox News has learned.
The soldiers following Soleiman's column as he left Baghdad International Airport were about a mile behind when he was hit by a rocket fired by a Reaper drone, Telegrafi broadcast.
They were at the scene of the explosion within a minute or two and conducted a so-called “assessment of the damage to the” bomb, taking pictures of the site of the event and confirmed that the fears had chosen the right car and that Soleman was gone.
Fox News has taken photographs of the consequences of the January 3rd drive attack by an American government source. Some of the images that Fox News won't show include graphic, close images of Solejman's body, which is severely damaged and missing limbs. Another picture shows the body of Soleman burning near the car in which he was traveling.
Fox News has learned that American forces pulled Soliman's body away from the scene and extinguished fire before formally identifying the Iranian general. They took other pictures then. He also carried a gun and a rifle.
Under normal circumstances, Soliman's phone and other electronics would be taken for forensic tests. However, the missile strike and the subsequent fire made such an investigation impossible.
In April 2019, the State Department announced that Iran was responsible for killing 608 American troops during the Iraq War, with Soleiman responsible for 17 percent of all deaths of American staff in Iraq between 2003 and 2011.
A source that served in Iraq and without photos told Fox News that Soleman died the same way he died as the Americans he killed.
