As unstable or strange as they may be, your nose hair plays an important role in keeping you healthy. And there's a very good reason why you shouldn't take them off.
Business Insider's video team spoke with Dr. Erich Voitgt, an otholaryngologist (means that he deals with ear, nose and throat disorders) at New York University. He described what is happening on your nose with the hairs that filter all the things that you breathe every day.
There are two types of nose hair that are essential: what you can see and want to remove called vibrissae, and microscopic carpets, which are responsible for filtering the mucus and moving it into the back of the nose, where it can enter the stomach.
Vibrissa is responsible for protecting the nose from the biggest wastes that tend to enter during breathing.
If you remove those hairs, germs and particles next to the follicles can get inside and cause infection.
The area in the face between the mouth and the nose, which is also called the “risk triangle” because it is quite sensitive and any infection that comes into the brain.
This is because the same veins that carry blood out of their nose are met with blood - bearing veins. Hence, these microbes can lead to meningitislike conditions (which allow the protective membranes in the spinal cord and the brain to become bulging) or brain abscess (another type of inflammation and swelling that occurs in the brain in connection with an infection).
These types of infections are rare, but they can cause serious trouble for people with weakened immune systems. And depending on the type of infection (acterial engineering, for example, can be extreme and in some cases deadly.
So the next time, instead of cutting a hair, you have to cut it down, this way “the risk triangle”, don't become an important health problem.
When you consider cutting a hair, you think of cutting it down; as long as you don't get too close to your skin inside your nose, it can hold the “risk triangle” not to become a complete problem.
