The use of plastic - based polymers for this purpose is not new for research, but earlier polymers became like a gel that sometimes flows or burns.

Because of flexibility, this new battery is ideal for use in intelligent phones or tools that will be used in certain pieces of clothing.

Former batteries used in such cases are solid, and for this reason they must be small in order not to disturb users.

New flexible batteries can be practically part of clothing, and for that reason they may be of much greater capacity. And since they use polymer electrolytes, which are much safer than liquid electrolytes, avoids flow or self-burning, Kosovas transmits.

During the test, batteries were able to maintain their energy properties even when folded, caught, or tightened to double their original dimensions.

At present, capacity is a problem, as these batteries can store about half the energy of conventional batteries with the same dimensions.

However, researchers expect in the next 12-18 months to be able to offer producers technology fully tested for flexible portable batteries,
