Fasting on a daily basis improved the cardiovascular system, blood pressure and heart rate after four weeks, researchers reported in the magazine Cell Metabolism on Tuesday, broadcast news.
People who attended the fasting plan for six months also had lower cholesterol rates of “negative” and triglycerides, compared to those who ate regularly.
In general, they received about 37% less calories, lost weight and had an improved “fat distribution”, lowering their fat in the womb 14% more.
Researchers saw no harmful effects from fasting on daily grounds even after six months on volunteers, concluding that the strategy seems to be as useful as limiting daily calories.
People can easily tolerate avoiding food for an entire day, Dr. Thomas Peeber, one of the authors of the study and chairman of the Department of Interior Medicine at Graz Medical University in Austria.
