The prosecution removes 738 fake veterans' names from the list.

It has been nearly a year since news first reported on the Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Act against 12 members of the Government Commission for recognition and verification of the status of KLA war veterans.

The Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK) has filed charges against: Agim Ceku, Nuredin Lushtaku, Sadik Halitijaha, Shumbin Demaliyaaj, Qele Gashi, Shukri Buja, Ahmet Daku, Rrustem Berisha, Faik Fazliu, Smajl Elezaj, Fadil Shudreaj and Xavit Yashari.

The indictment states that accused Agim Ceku, Nureddin Lushtacu, Sadik Halitaj, Shkumbin Demalijaj, Qele Gashi, Shukri Buja, Ahmet Daku, Rrustem Berisha, Faik Fazliu, Smajl Elezaj, Fadil Shudreaj and Xhavit Jashari, have deliberately exceeded their competencies, as well as have not fulfilled their official duties, in order to enable other people to take advantage of illegally, in line with damage to the Kosovo's budget.

The prosecution says the defendants in advance, failing to fulfill their official duties before the outcome of the complaint process and prior to the adoption of the final lists had only begun distributing the certificates of combat veteran.

Pensions received by fake veterans, named after the prosecution, from early 2015 to August 2018, have caused the damage to the amount of 88,769,217,04euro, which, if calculated per month, is 3,315,00 euros.

“Based on Article49 par. 1 under paragraph 1.1, Article 459 and Article467 par. 1 and 2 and Article 469 of the Republic of Kosovo Criminal Procedure Code, so that the Court will release the provisional measure for ensuring rich legal demand, through which I will order the Ministry of Labour and Social Management of the Republic of Kosovo-Department for the Families of Witnesses, War Invaleds and Civil Victims to suspend payment of pensions for 19,500 beneficiaries - a fighter until the end of the criminal procedure. ”

The prosecution also says it has different audio recordings and documentations proving that the aforementioned have abused the official task.

This case has been quite complex and challenging, it points out, while remembering that there have been millions of pages that have had to be translated and read in some 800 pieces of material and various documents, without counting other investigative actions and material provided by these investigative actions.

The KLA's OVL called not to fall prey, as they say.

Gazmend Syla has responded to this statement by the Office for Catagorian Affairs that reportedly is the Commission's responsibility to determine the status of war categories.

On the other hand, Syla has said: “the only certificates that were printed during our mandate are those of the Vetran-Pjetre category and vetran-Pjetre-Pjetr categories, based on the prestigious lists we have from the Government Commission, as well as the missing certificates, damaged or those with technical errors”, leaving it vague over this situation and asking OVL not to issue such communiques, according to his policy.
