Scientists have identified a gene that affects our desire to drink a certain amount of coffee.
Recently published research results in “magazine Scientific Reports” found that people with gene variations in DNA known as PPS2 tend to drink less coffee than they do without a version of this gene.
This gene can reduce the ability of cells to absorb caffeine by keeping it longer in the body, thus reducing the amount of coffee needed by the body (caffeinated caffeine).
The investigation was conducted by a team from Edinburgh, Italy, and the Netherlands. They analyzed the genes of 370 people living in a small village in southern Italy and 843 people from 6 villages in northern Italy. Participants filled out a questionnaire describing their drinking habits.
