The awards ceremony will be held on 26 October 2019 at the Toy Cultural Centre in South Korea.
Kim Uchang, chairman of the selection commission, said that “Ismail Kadare's work makes readers think and feel their relationship with specific events of history”.
This award is also associated with a financial reward, about $84 thousand, writes BalkanWeb.
The winner is declared after examining some 350 authors from around the world.
In July the list was reduced to the five best authors, from whom the renowned Albanian writer won.
The new literary award was established in 2011 by the Toji Cultural Foundation to honour the late Korean writer Pack Kionni.
Ismail Kadare, whose works have been translated into over 40 foreign languages, is undoubtedly the greatest Albanian writer of modern times.
He has been nominated several times to win the Nobel Prize for Literature and has been several times close to receiving it.
