Based on some urine samples taken from children between the ages of 9 and 11 in Los Angeles and Manhattan, almost two thirds of them went to school almost dehydrated, which could negatively affect their educational performance. But once these students are allowed to drink water, vigilance, happiness, and clarity return almost immediately. The absorption of water is immediately done in five minutes, from mouth to bloodstream, reaching a peak in the twentieth minute. Interestingly, cold water is absorbed about 20 percent faster than water at an environmental temperature.

How do you know you're dehydrated? Just ask the body. If you drink water and urinate in a short time, that is a sign of the body that has been fed. But if you drink some water and the body keeps much of it, this indicates that your reserves are running out. Researchers used this concept to develop a formal tool for dehydranation: Empty your bladder, drink three glasses of water, and after an hour see how much you will urinate. They decided that if you drink three glasses of water and, within an hour, urinate less than one drink, you were likely dehydrated.
