But all that could change soon Bloomberg reported. The company is reportedly building a subscreen scanner technology that will operate in co-ordination with Face ID.
Fingerprint scans in front of the phone are more appropriate than those on the back.
However, with modern phones that have screens covering almost entirely the front of the telephone, sensors that have been in front of them should either be placed below the screen or move behind the telephone.
Apple decided to remove Touch ID and avoid fingerprint scanners below screen in favor of Face ID.
Next week Apple will launch the new iPhone, which will also have new sensors Face ID.
