Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq has declared that in the existing circumstances it is not possible for Serbia to accept Kosovo's independence and that it is necessary to continue dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo to reach a compromise solution.
We can only talk about everything if it's compromise. And for Albanians to win everything, while Serbia gains nothing, my signature will never be taken. At this moment I am the president of Serbia, perhaps you find someone who wants to be free of compromise, only by conveying the ultimatums, to accept this”, Vuciq said in an interview for the Voice of America in the Serbian language, in question whether he will be the Serbian politician who will recognise Kosovo's independence.
He has estimated that most in Serbia “throughout the time are acting stupid, as if they do not know what it is about, when it comes to Kosovo” and has added that “Serbia cannot change the US decision on recognising Kosovo's independence, but has denied that this means that Serbia must recognise Kosovo” as well.
This means we have to fight, but also understand what America's attitude is. Because I cannot accept what we are reading in our media, that American President Donald Trump has changed politics. They have recognised Kosovo's independence, this is their policy, it will not change anything. What we're looking for is to fight for our interests, to get as much out as we can for Serbia”, Vuciq has said.
Asked whether the US supports its previous idea of definition between Albanians and Serbs, Vuciq has said the “American subposition is clear”.
“They're open, they're saying we don't care what the agreement is, we're not excited about the idea of Vuciki because we've recognised Kosovo on these borders and we want to, that's what they're saying today openly, to come to mutual recognition”, Vuciq claimed.
