Iran will not speak to the United States unless they lift all sanctions against the Islamic Republic, Iranian President Hassan Rohan said. The statement comes after US President Donald Trump said he is open for a meeting with Rohan “under appropriate circumstances”.
In a speech broadcast Tuesday on Iranian state television, Rohan said Iran is ready for talks, but because “initially, the US must lift all illegal and unfair sanctions imposed against Iran”. Rohan reiterated that his country “has never wanted nuclear weapons” and added that Tehran will continue to withdraw from commitments envisioning the 2015 nuclear agreement, if Iran's “interests are not guaranteed”.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have increased since Washington last year, has been withdrawn from the nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers and imposed severe sanctions on the Iranian economy. The other five signatories, including France, Britain and Germany, remain committed to the deal, with which Tehran has agreed to reduce its nuclear activities in exchange for easing sanctions.
Iran, however, has begun to withdraw from some commitments the agreement demands. Trump, speaking at the conclusion of the summit of the Group of the Seven Most Industrialised Countries (G7) on Monday in France, said it would be agreed to meet with Rohan if the “circumstances are the right or right”. He also said there is a good “ ” about the prospect of a new nuclear agreement with Iran. /Rel/
