The wedding ring tradition dates back to ancient Egypt, as archaeologists have found evidence in hieroglyphics that brides wore rings. People who started holding one believed they had a delicate “nerv that ran from the fourth to the heart, and then the heart was believed to be the center of emotion.
The Egyptians were not the only ones wearing rings. Ancient Greeks and the ancient Romans also held rings because they believed such a theory. They even called it the love vein.
Although this vein and nerve does not exist, Western countries have continued that ancient tradition. In other cultures, such as Denmark, Poland, and Cuba, wedding rings are held on the right. Traditionally, women were the only ones wearing wedding rings.
