Why some people have a little hole in their ears

A small percentage of the population is born with preauricular sinus ʹ the small hole that lies on the outside of the ear.

But why? exists This hole?

Technically, this hole is a birth defect.

The first case of this phenomenon was recorded in 1864 by Van Heustinger.

According to evolutionary biologist Neil Shubin, these holes may be evolutionary remains of fish shells.

Between 0.1% and 0.9% of Europeans and the American population are born with this phenomenon.

Also about 2.5% of the tanese and 10% of the population in some African regions are born with this phenomenon.
