Fires are not an unusual phenomenon in times of drought in Brazil, but satellite data recently released shows an 85 percent increase in fires in these forests. This country's satellite agency has recorded more than 41,000 fires in the Amazon this year, while more than half have started this month alone.
While the international leaders gathered at the G7 summit in France appear to be very close to a deal to provide assistance in extinguishing the flames in the Amazon forests. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the technical assistance for forests that have been involved for several days by the flames is very near.
Various businesses and art, meanwhile, have made available different amounts for extinguishing fires. Leonardo DiCaprio promised to donate $5 million to help fight the fires that are destroying tropical forests in the Amazon.
According to popular media actor DiCaprio has deposited $5m in a Amazon Forest emergency fund, launched by Earth Alliance, an environmental organization that he founded himself.
