Hong Kong police have several times thrown tear gas at protesters who had gathered around the government's main building, causing tensions between the two sides to rise on the thirteenth weekend of the protests.
On Saturday, protesters wore black clothes and were equipped with gasolines, helmets, and body protection. Before meeting in front of the government building, they marched on several roads despite the police - set ban.
Police poured tear gas from the inside of the government complex, filling the streets around the building with gas. In the last few hours of the day, protesters were seen hiding behind barricades and under tents. Some of them threw stones and gas bombs and set the barricades on fire.
This is the 13th week of protests in Hong Kong. They were prompted by the draft law on the extradition of citizens to China. Local authorities, backed by Beijing, began mass arrest by protesters, including prominent figures of the uprising.
Several police clashes with protesters have been violent, and police have beaten protesters. Hong Kong Mayor Carrie Lam has warned that she will bring a law granting the government the right to suppress the protests, writes the Guardian”.
