A car designed by the famous Ferdinand Porsche in Nazi Germany and expected to be sold for millions of dollars has failed to find the buyer at an auction in California on Saturday, amid scenes of confusion and ridicule.

Porsche Tip 64 was extremely unusual and was built in 1939, when Porsche was a designer for Volkswagen. It was supposed to win the race from Berlin to Rome to celebrate “Steel Act” between Nazi Germany and fascist Italy, writes The Guardian, past Periscope.

This car was expected to sell for over 20 million dollars. According to Bloomberg News, the auction began with 30 million, and the offerings quickly went out in 70, with some in the crowd laughing while others scoffed.

But the auction owner said that he had thought of saying 13 million at the beginning and then 17. So, amid confusion, the sale collapsed. /Periscope
