The tanker, called Grace 1, was confiscated last month in a British Navy operation.
It was allegedly violating the European Union's sanctions for supplying Iran's ally Syria, and its capture increased international tensions in the Persian Gulf, Periscopi suggests.
In a statement, the government of Gibraltar said the ship would be free to head towards its destination, as US sanctions had no equivalent for the United Kingdom or the rest of the EU.
The United States had issued a warrant Friday to seize ship-cisterna, just one day after stopping by Gibraltar.
The U.S. government claimed that Grace 1 was part of an illegal supply unit from Iran for Revolutionary Corps, located as a terrorist organisation in this country. /Periscope
