Serbian diplomacy chief Ivica Dacic has rejected criticism from Michael Carpenter, a former US Department of Defence official responsible for Russia, Eurasia and the Balkans.
Carpenter said the Serbian foreign minister is interfering with American domestic politics, urging Serbs to vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming US elections.
But Daciq has an explanation. When Jews vote for Trump, it is no intervention, when Albanians vote for Clinton and Engel. I don't speak for Serbia as a state, I speak for American citizens of origin from Serbia. Things also work in America”, Daciq said of the Serbian daily “Politika”, broadcasts news. The Serbian diaspora in the US should be organised, Dacic says.
Carpenter, director of “Pen Biden Centre”, who has also served as political adviser to US Vice President Joe Biden, has told Voice of America that he believes that “Dicciqi is making a big mistake (4)x3> with this call and that “supporting Serbia's European road is an issue on which the two parties in the US must reconcile<5>.
Serbia's “Foreign Minister plans to intervene in domestic American politics by gathering Serb-Americans to support Trump in 2020. Personally, I think he's making a big mistake, and American support for Serbia's European road should remain a bipartisan issue”, Carpenter wrote on his Twitter profile.
