German manufacturer claims X5 can protect passengers from multiple types of firearms, including AK-47s, as well as explosives TNT to 15 kilos, at a distance of four meters.
BMW has discovered an armoured version of his SUV called X5 Protection VR6, designed to protect against explosives, firearms and kidnapping efforts.
The X5 VR6 model is in line with the internationally recognised official test criteria.
However, the whole car is coated with solid steel, with overlapping on each part and margins to maximize coverage
BMW X5 Protection VR6 is enabled by the same 4.4 liters of twin turbo V8 to the new X5 M50 and X7 M50. The engine produces 530 horsepower, as from 0 to 100 km/h reaches 5.9 seconds and maximum speed electronically is defined at 210 km/h.
X5 The VR6 will be produced along with X5 standard at the US-based Spartanburg factory BMW, with prices set to be announced later this year.
By comparison, Volvo recently presented a similar armoured version of her XC90 SUV.
The weight of this vehicle is 4.5 tonnes, and the price of XC90 is about 495,000 euros.
