A single pill of four heart pills per day can prevent one third of heart attacks and attacks, according to a study published by Birmingham University's Lancet magazine, which would cost several cents a day.
Therapy includes a dose of aspirin, a statue, and two drugs to lower blood pressure, and was tested on about 6,800 people over 50 years of age in Iran.
In the group that took the pill, there were 202 serious cardiovascular events, and in the other group, there were 301 events.
“We tried in a middle-income country - that this is a strategy worth considering”, explains one of the authors for BBC Tom Marshall.
In advanced countries, the advantage would be much lower, because patients have a much wider choice of drugs for treatment. The benefits would be more marginal and a clinical test would be needed to see if it could be useful”, the authors stressed.
