Smuggling thrives in the north, Serbs there do not notice lack of goods, despite tax

Northern Serb residents complained they could not afford food because of their lack of food, and businessmen complained they were not getting the goods. The Kosovo government said it was just a game prepared by the Government of Serbia in order to lift the 100th tax for [...]
The Kosovo government said this was simply a game prepared by the Government of Serbia in order to lift the 100 per cent tax Kosovo has imposed on Serbian goods.
Serbs also complained about the lack of medicines and closure of drugs, but this was exposed by the Ministry of Health.
The Kosovo government organised several shopping points in the north where citizens could be supplied with food products they claimed to lack.
But, upon seeing this government decision, Serbian businessmen decided to open their stores again and sell food to residents of their community.
But where are the goods coming from “that were missing”?
Kosovo Customs spokesman Adriatic Stavileci said it has minimal import
Serbia's “Malra has minimal import, so far we have about 3m euros compared to last year for the same time in 2018 that has been 200 million”, Stavileci said.
He also said that there were no cases where goods were attempted to be introduced illegally or through smuggling and that the flow is low.
And we haven't had cases of illegal access or smuggling cases yet. Even in the last few days there has been no flow, it has been all normal”, Stavileci said of the news.
Serbian businessmen have threatened Kosovo institutions that if this situation continues then according to them: “things can go on the road without turning”.
But even after the communiqué showing that stores would be opened, they did not make it clear where they took their hidden goods.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that there have been rumours that goods are hidden from shops and stocks around houses and warehouses in that part of Kosovo.
