Children should not consume juices in their first year of life. This is the alarm that raises “The American Academy of Paddy”. They recommend that in the first 12 months, children not be given juices, while between the ages of 1 and 3, they are allowed to consume up to 120 ml but 100% natural fruit.
Juice does not replace fruits
Parents may feel that fruit juices are very healthy, but they cannot actually replace fruit. They can be good in small amounts for children over one year old. Under this age, doctors recommend no use at all.
When should you start giving your child juice?
In the first six months, breast milk is more than enough for the child to receive the nutrients it needs. After six months, you can add fruit to its menu but never in the form of fluid, only cut to pieces. After 12 months, you can supply small amounts of fluids, but provided they are 100% of the fruit that is squeezed without other substances.
According to doctors, it would not be advisable for the child to be given juices if he is dehydrated or if he has diarrhea, even before he goes to bed.
