Research of Helsinki University examined the lives of 1222 middle - aged leaders from 1919 to 1934. They were recruited for scientific research between 1974-1975 and were surveyed for the next 40 years. Participants had at least one risk to cardiovascular diseases like smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, or intolerance to glucose.

Half the participants underwent a health programme, the other half did not receive rigorous instructions about the state of physical form.

When health advice was not enough, the directors attending the study also took prescribed drugs at the time to reduce blood pressure and lipids. University of Helsinki scientists found that the risk of cardiac disease had been reduced by 46% among males involved in the health program, compared with those involved in the control group.
Four decades after the study was launched, researchers compared this data to national death records and analyzed previous unregistered information such as working hours, sleep, rest days. This showed that the mortality rate in the group participating in the health program was constantly higher by 2004. After that date, the mortality rate fell equally between the two groups, between 2004 and 2014.

Scientists found that these surprising results were shorter vacations.
"Don't think another healthy life style can compensate for working long hours and not take the necessary vacation days” " said Professor Timo Strandberg of Helsinki University in Finland. “Expulsions can be a good way to remove stress”.
