The strike, under the motto “there is no more discount on our income,” started on the night between Sunday and Monday, and coincided with “Prime Day”, when Amazon for its “subbonds Prime” offers discounts.
“While Amazon is popularised with landing hunting on the day of” providing big discounts, employees are deprived of their income,” said union expert Verdi, Orhan Akman.
Amazon has not specified the exact number of employees who are on strike, but is said to have no impact on consumer remittances.
The company must finally accept collective agreements on wages for retail sectors and e-mail orders,” said Akman.
Amazon manages 12 warehouses in Germany, and yesterday it plans to open another one this year, which will bring more than 2,800 jobs with indefinite contracts.
Amazon is leading a long battle with trade unions in Germany that demand salaries and better conditions for workers at logistics centres, where unions have organised frequent strikes since 2013.
