While in seven days there were four thousand people who, due to high temperatures, had health problems.
Of this number, up to ten percent are chronically ill patients, where the most frequent pathology is hypertension, past patients with strokes, heart attacks, and some other chronic diseases. So said Basri Lenyan, director of Emergency Clinic, in which, fortunately so far, no case has ended fatally.
The sun's influence has a harmful effect, especially on chronically ill people. It can reactualize a renewed display of disease, such as heart attacks, strokes, and so forth. They need to obtain vitamin - rich food and drink two liters of water a day”.
Pregnant mothers and young children should also flee high temperatures. All these relief cases are directly influenced by the heat, and our advice is from 11: 00 p.m. to 5: 00 p.m., let people not be exposed to the rays of the sun”, Lenyan said.
On the other hand, Drita Telaku, director of the Clinic Clinic at the Clinical Center, told Radio Free Europe that the number of children seeking medical help has increased, mainly from diarrhea and vomiting, but not from excessive exposure to the sun.
We don't have an added number of children who because of the heat need medical help. There are up to 25 children we accept in the clinic. Thanks to our parents, our highest awareness is keeping children from high temperatures, we have the usual performance. Meanwhile, we have an increased number of viruss, stomach infections, mostly food poisoning. Nevertheless, we expect these changes every year”, Telaku said.
However, even officials from the Kosovo National Institute of Public Health have recommended that children, older people, and chronically ill people not be exposed to high temperatures and consume as much fluids as possible.
Europe, this year, is facing high temperatures. Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic have recorded the highest temperatures ever in June. Record temperatures forced countries like France and Switzerland to close down even schools.
