The Ministry of Agriculture has published the analysis of the ambalrred water market, with which the state of local export and import productivity is presented, trade balance, quality prices for the 2010-2017 period, sector support, and conclusion.
According to official data, in 2017, Kosovo had mostly imported water from Serbia with an import share of 75 percent, rich from Albania by 11 percent, from Turkey by 4 percent, from Croatia by 2 percent, and from Slovenia by 1 percent, reports <x0); Koha Ditore<18x1>.
These countries make up 93 percent of the import, while grouped countries as others take part in only 7 percent.
According to statistics from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, the overall water market in Kosovo in 2017 is estimated to be around 64m and 600 thousand euros. In addition to domestic production, a significant amount of this product is imported, including different types from many countries. Import of this product in 2010- 2016, on average, has been 104, 165 tonnes per year, increasing depending on market demands. The largest amount of imports was in 2015, with 119,837 tons, while in 2017 that amount was 112,988 tons”, says the report.
The analysis says local water producers have managed to increase their capacity and export their products, and the biggest success was in 2017 because the value of exports was 10 million and 100 thousand euros, while the lowest amount was in 2010, with only 2 million and 300 thousand euros.
According to official data, 25 small and medium-sized companies are registered in Kosovo in 2017. It has been requested by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to review support measures in order for local companies to improve technology in order to achieve high water product standards.
“As far as country exports are concerned, the highest percentage of water was exported to Macedonia 31 percent, then Albania 17 percent, Bulgaria by 10 percent, Romania 7 percent, Montenegro 6 percent, Switzerland 4 percent followed by Serbia and Italy with participation of 2 percent, as well as in countries grouped as others by 21 percent. From the data presented in this analysis, we can conclude that in Kosovo this sector is on the rise and that it is expanding rapidly”, the Ministry's report, published this year, says.
